Necessity and importance of MPH courses

In recent decades, non-communicable diseases have a major role of diseases and mortality in human societies, so that the epidemic of these diseases in the last century is progressing rapidly. This subject has changed the attitude and performance of health policy makers at various global, regional and national levels. Because obesity is the cause of many diseases and on the other hand has an increasing prevalence in the world and in Iran, so that according to the latest official statistics of the World Health Organization, currently 3.62% of people over the age of 18 in Iran are overweight and obese, and 1.26% of people have varying degrees of obesity, which makes obesity as a specific disease. Due to the multifactorial nature of this disease, its complications and effects, and also the effect of various factors in its prevention, occurrence and treatment, it seems that controlling this disease requires activities at all levels of prevention (primary, secondary and tertiary) and the country’s health officials must do the necessary work at different levels of prevention to control this disease In general, to reduce the charge of this disease in the country and take steps in this way to promote the health of society. Accordingly, and considering this issue, a group of faculty members of Iran national center of excellence for minimally invasive surgery education in Iran University of Medical Sciences decided to launch an MPH course with the focus on obesity prevention and health promotion, for physicians and senior experts related to community health.

The purpose of MPH courses

The purpose of MPH courses with the tendency to prevent obesity and promote health is to train capable and creative people for the country’s health care system. To be able to analyze the health problems related to obesity in the field of their work and responsibility from an epidemiological, environmental, nutritional point of view and provide appropriate solutions to prevent and solve these problems

length of the course

The duration of study in this course is 1.5 to 2 years and the program is the same as the master’s course.

Selection rules

Students of this course will be selected from among the Doctor of Medicine graduates in the fields of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary and senior experts related to community health.

Awarding a certificate

Graduates of this course will be awarded the MPH, Public Health Certificate, which is the same level as the Master’s Degree.
